Stichting Sportevenementen Le Champion is taking over the organization of the AMGEN Breda Singelloop from Stichting de Bredase Singelloop. The acquisition gives the running event a new future at Le Champion, which as a non-profit sports organization is seizing this opportunity to get even more people moving with this unique, urban running event in a new region.
The AMGEN Breda Singelloop has been a fixture on the national running calendar since 1986 and is characterized by its unique course along the canals and through Breda’s historic city center. The event is strongly rooted in the city and is supported by a large group of committed volunteers, sponsors and spectators.
At the end of November, after 38 years, the volunteer board decided to stop organizing the Breda Singelloop. It no longer considers it responsible to continue organizing an event, of this magnitude, on a voluntary basis in the current times. For the continuity of the Breda Singelloop, the board has actively searched for specialized, professional parties who can and want to take over the organization of the Breda Singelloop.
The Stichting de Bredase Singelloop has entered into consultation with Stichting Sportevenementen Le Champion. A professional party that acts from the same values, vision and method, fitting the character of the Breda Singelloop. Le Champion is thus the ideal candidate who, with all its experience and expertise, can ensure the sustainability of the event.
Willem Butz, president of the Breda Singelloop Foundation:
“We are very pleased that Le Champion will continue the Breda Singelloop. It is a professional organization that wants to make social impact by getting people moving. The past weeks have strengthened our confidence that Le Champion will take the Breda Singelloop, while maintaining its character, to the next level.”
The Breda Singelloop continues, on Sunday, April 4, 2027
Le Champion already organizes several large-scale running events in the fall, including the NN Dam tot Damloop in September and the TCS Amsterdam Marathon in October. It was therefore decided to organize the AMGEN Breda Singelloop in the spring from now on. In this period there is more space on the running calendar. This gives enough time for a careful handover to allow the 39th edition of the Breda Singelloop to return with full attention and quality on Sunday, April 4, 2027.
Aldermen Arnoud van Vliet and Eddie Förster of the Municipality of Breda (events and sports) are happy that the event will be preserved: “It is very good news that the Singelloop continues. Sports events are enormously important for Breda: they get people moving, connect and show how lively our city is. A real running city, which many other visitors also enjoy.”
René Wit, Le Champion Sports Events Foundation board of directors:
“The AMGEN Breda Singelloop is outside our familiar region, but that is precisely why we see this as a special opportunity.” It is a unique event with a rich history, which moreover has been well and professionally organized for many years. We have great respect for what has been built up here and look forward to continuing to build on this together with all those involved.”
Le Champion will work with partners, volunteers, municipality of Breda and other involved parties in the coming period to further shape the 2027 edition. In doing so, the character of the AMGEN Breda Singelloop will remain central. Further information about the program will follow at a later date. Registration for the AMGEN Bredase Singelloop 2027 opens on August 31, 2026.
